BTW

Heather over at HumbleBeads started Bead Table Wednesday a few weeks ago and it just now worked out for me to participate. Score one for me in the advanced planning department, I know. Anyhoo, here is my table in general with all the different things I have going, including the beads that came out of the oven yesterday (hence the hot pads laying around, I am not a patient woman :)).

Here is the project that is in forefront of my brain. That's why it has a place of honor on the board.
Happy Beady Wednesday!

Winner for 100th follower.

My super sophisticated winner picker over at Random.org says that comment number 2 (Jen) is the winner of my 100th follower giveaway! Congrats, Jen! I will contact you to arrange your prize. Thank you to all who participated. The One World One Heart giveaway started today too so come on over and have another crack at winning.

A better, more organized and navigable mess.

The studio is coming along!

Good help is hard to find.

Don't forget to enter HERE for your chance to win!

My house has been a wreck for a week now and while we are making progress, it's sometimes a case of things getting worse before they get better. The 2 big boys came and got me the other day to tell me that they had a surprise for me. Here is what it was....

"Surprise!! We were helping you move the furniture, Mommy!"

Friday frenzy.

Paul (the hubs) has every other Friday off from work. It's kind of like a second Saturday. We try to get most of the projects and errands run on those Fridays for the weekend. Then we proceed to goof off for the rest. It's great. Today we're tackling more of Grandma Vivian's furniture (back story). In case you are feeling overwhelmed by the state of your life right now, let me share these pictures with you that hopefully will make you feel better.

That last one is my living room as of last Saturday. It's better now but parts of the mess just migrated to other parts of the house. Bad news is I have been working every night for the last month, I work tomorrow and I still have another week to go. Good news is I get to look at this all day.

How bad could life be when you've got 3 monkeys like this one?!

Vintage glass.

My great grandmother's jewelry and furniture seems to have bitten me with the "vintage bug". These vintage glass bracelets are up in my Etsy shop and I have some more trays of vintage glass calling my name as I try to type! What intrigues me about this stuff is mostly the shapes that you come across. You can see in both of these bracelets a great variety of forms that make it fun to take a second and third look.

Let me make you feel good about you...

Disclaimer: While I am usually the "messy artistic" type, I am not usually THIS much of a disaster. My great grandmother's furniture was delivered to my house over the weekend and she had several metal storage shelves that are going to make my studio MUCH nicer. Here is what my studio looked like on Sunday afternoon when I started the makeover. I should have taken pictures of what it looked like before I touched anything but that would take advanced fore thought and planning skills that are not my forte :)

This is one corner.

Here is another.

Coming soon...same corner, new mess!

Authentic vintage part 3.

I don't have too much time today so here are a few more pieces from Great Granda's stash!

Authentic vintage part 2.

So the boxes have been opened and I played the biggest game of Memory EVER to lay it all out, figure out what needs repairs and what is missing. It looked like this:

Here are a few of my favorite pieces for now.

I will post a little more about the complete collection after I research things a little more. There is a lot of Monet and Trifari, so if you know of some good sites to research vintage jewels please email me or leave it in the comments! I am just getting my feet wet for the first time in the vintage jewelry scene so any and all help is deeply appreciated.

PS. Sorry about the focus on some of shots. I need to practice taking photos of more shiny things apparently :)

Authentic vintage part 1.

My great grandma Vivian is turning 100 this year. She just moved into an assisted living facility last weekend. As you can probably imagine, she is amazing. She and her husband were in the intelligence community for our government for many years and she has some awesome stories. Another time, remind me to tell you about the red leather pumps that got away. Anyway, Grandma Vivian gave me these:

The box is STUFFED with smaller bags and boxes of her jewelry! Lots of costume, some gold and silver, tons of clip on earrings and more than a little vintage lucite (I think but I will be doing some more research to see if I can actually use that term). As soon as I can lay it all out and take photos I'll let you know!

Bead Soup Partner!

Well, it took some hard work (and maybe liquor) on the part of the fantabulous Lori Anderson but we got our Bead Soup partners this weekend. Mine is the amazingly talented Marianna of the Pretty Shiny Things blog. Marianna describes herself this way:

"I'm a mom, artist, designer, glass bead maker, vintage lover, knitter, painter, writer and bookworm who loves to sew, decorate, work on home improvement projects, play board games, take lot's of pictures, scrapbook, shop, spend time with family and friends and blog about what I'm working on or whatever is on my mind."

You can visit Marianna by clicking on the Pretty Shiny link above or use the button in my sidebar which I will be leaving up for the duration of the party!

Coming soon...I will be bouncing around some ideas of what to send Marianna...I may even post some "half pics" to tease your brain :)

Word

Isaac has a "Word of the Week" most weeks at preschool. This week's word is "embarrassed". They have stories and skits about being embarrassed, how it happens to us all and it's ok to feel that way etc. My conversation with Isaac went something like this:

Me: So what kind of things make you embarrassed, Honey?
Isaac: "Nothing."
Me: "Really? You never feel embarrassed about anything?"
Ike: "No. No I don't."

Definitely his mother's son.

To double drill or not?

These little dears are sitting on my table trying to decide how they want to be drilled. What do you think?!  So far the favorite seems to be drilled twice on the top and bottom points, leaving a diamond shape to be worked into something fabulous :)

Bead Soup Sign up begins today!

Yay!! Lori Anderson over at Pretty Things is hosting another Bead Soup party. Sign up begins today. It is awesome. Lori matches participants up with a partner and you swap beads (see more info here). Then you create with the materials your partner sends you and have a blog party to reveal everyone's finished pieces. Pure awesomeness. Lori Anderson. Check her out!

And we're back!

Whew! I just now have had a chance to get back to blogging. I don't know about you but the holiday season at my house was so packed full of family and fun that I think I only had time to check email and pay bills (and most of that I did from my phone on the go)! This picture is the oldest person in our clan and the youngest and I thought it was a great representation of all the good times. My absolute favorite part of any day, holiday or otherwise is family!

PS. Stay tuned for some exciting events coming up! BeadSoup 2011 and One World One Heart both start this month!
